FAZE is an independent art publication led by Jesse Hebert (Toronto, ON) with direction from Milana Radic (Montreal, QC) and photography by Haley Mai (Windsor, ON). The first issue, “Breaking the Shell”, takes a critical look at division: the ways in which it manifests, how it’s used as a tool, who it serves and who suffers. Themes of resistance, angst and activism emerge throughout its politically-charged pages. This issue is optimistic in its inquiry into unity as a solution and provides resources to arm against divisive efforts. The aesthetics and energy of the photography, design and writing takes cues from the punk subculture (zines, music, fashion, ideologies), political hip-hop/rap, and the grunge design genius: David Carson. This specific manifestation is an early draft of “Breaking the Shell”. It serves as an iteration of the work in its current state; prior to its final form.
